#wine review: Thorn Napa Valley Merlot

Ottawa, ON

August 2018

Matt’s review: Thorn Merlot sources their grapes from acclaimed vineyards throughout the world famous Napa Valley. A blend of 77% Merlot with Malbec and Syrah providing additional structure and complexity, this wine is big, juicy, and incredibly luscious. The nose shows spicy raspberry, plum, currant, black cherry, hickory smoke and cedar. The palate is dense, rich, and textured with dark smoky fruit, dark cherry, chocolate, and fine tannins lingering on the long finish. Tasting this wine is like drinking from a fire hose, it blasts you with big taste and a mammoth, albeit well balanced, presence that’s undeniably California through and through. A perfect complement to any BBQ or braised dish! Enjoy 2018-2026. Tasted August 2018. 93 points. Matt Steeves – http://www.quercusvino.ca
