wine review: Baron Philippe de Rothschild’s Escudo Rojo 2019

Ottawa, ON

October 2021

Matt’s review: Baron Philippe de Rothschild’s Escudo Rojo Reserva is an impressive value-priced Cabernet Sauvignon from this storied Chilean winery. Dark plum, blackberry, brandied cherries, baking spices, pepper, and menthol on the hose and palate. Medium-full bodied, it’s dry with dark fruits and savoury flavours persisting on the refreshing finish. Enjoy with braised dishes, BBQ fare, or aged cheddar. Tasted October 2021. 89 points. Available at LCBO – $17.95
