wine review: Casa Sartori 1898 I Saltori Amarone Della Valpolicella DOCG Riserva 2015

Matt’s review:

Sartori 1898 I Saltari Riserva 2015 Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG Riserva

I Saltari comes from a single vineyard up in the Val d’Illasi of Valopolicella, around 230 meters in elevation. A blend of 60% Corvina, 10% Corvinone, 20% Rondinella, and 10% Croatina grapes, which were picked then slowly dried for three months in the winery’s drying lofts prior to pressing and fermentation. With four years of aging in a mix of large and small oak then a minimum of one year in bottle prior to release, the 2015 vintage of Sartori 1898 I Saltari Riserva is showing beautifully now with decades of aging potential. The nose shows brandied cherries, cigar box, dried dark fruit, and incense. On the palate, the wine presents a refreshing elegance, with dusty tannins and a backbone of dried dark fruit. Its terrific structure hints at its potential for long-term cellaring, suggesting decades of enjoyment to come. With a long zippy and textured finish, this Riserva Amarone would complement hearty stews, grilled red meats, game dishes, or well-matured cheeses, each creating a truly indulgent culinary experience. Enjoy 2025 – 2045. Tasted February 2024. 94-95 points. Matt Steeves – http://www.quercusvino.ca
