Wine review: Hester Creek Sauvignon Blanc 2024, Columbia Valley AVA

Ottawa, ON

April 2025

Matt’s review:

In a year marked by challenges for wineries in the Okanagan Valley due to complete crop loss from winter freeze, Hester Creek successfully pivoted by sourcing fruit from the neighboring Columbia Valley AVA. This 2024 vintage showcases the winery’s commitment to quality and adaptability, resulting in an impressive expression of Sauvignon Blanc that reflects both regions’ strengths.

Hand-harvested on September 2, 2024, from the White Bluffs AVA of the Columbia Valley, the grapes were promptly transported to Hester Creek’s facility, in temperature-controlled trucks, where their winemaking team was eagerly waiting carry-out the meticulous winemaking they’re renowned for with their Golden Mike Bench wines. Following hand sorting and destemming, they were cold settled for two days then underwent and 21-day fermentation in stainless steel which allowed the vibrant characteristics of the fruit to shine through.

As soon as you pour a glass, you’re greeted by its super fresh and clean profile with vibrant notes of Asian pear, exotic fruits, guava, and wildflower honey, complemented by a touch of minerality. The palate is lively, with light mineral and citrus zest lingering on the finish. This impressive Sauvignon Blanc is sure to please all. Fantastic effort! Tasted April 2025. 92 points.
