Wine review: 2024 Noble Ridge Vineyard & Winery “Vilicus” Pinot Gris-Viognier

Ottawa, ON

April 2025

Matt’s review:

2024 was the vintage without a vintage in the Okanagan Valley due to a virtually complete loss of crop from a devastating winter freeze. Given this unique predicament, Noble Ridge’s winemaker looked to his neighbours to the south for some help. Sourcing fruit from Horse Heaven Hills AVA and Goose Gap AVA they crafted a few wines in a one-time release named “Vilicus”, a tribute to the noble spirit entrusted with preserving the winery’s legacy as the recover from a challenging year.

Grapes were harvested September 26 and October 2nd from south facing vineyards in Horse Heaven Hills AVA and North and Northeast slopes in the Goose Gap AVA. The grapes were pressed and stabilized under the guidance of Noble Ridge’s winemaker, then transported to Noble Ridge at the southern limit of Okanagan Falls where their winemaking team looked after crafting this serogate wine.

Pale gold colour, the nose reveals fragrant stone fruit, orchard fruit, spring blossoms, pear, and wildflower honey. Crowd pleasing, it’s medium-full bodied with a creamy viscous texture, the ripe stone fruit flavours persisting on the finish, making this a very seassionable wine to enjoy this spring and summer. Tasted April 2025. 89 points. Matt Steeves – http://www.QuercusVino.ca
