First up,

Single Malt Scotch – every father’s dream gift for Father’s Day

Ardbeg Perpetuum Islay Single Malt

—VINTAGES#: 410928   |   750 mL bottle

Ardbeg Perpetuum is regarded as the most heavily peated and smoky of Islay’s whiskies, with characteristic smoke, sea salt, citrus and vanilla notes that linger long and gratifyingly. The Perpetuum is Ardbeg’s special bottling created to celebrate the distillery’s 200th anniversary and stands not only as a testament to the enduring legacy of traditionally styled Islay Scotch but also as a promise of great things to come.

Matt’s review:

Peat galore!  Such deep and concentrated smoky peat and sea salt with rich caramel and spice on the palate. Very refined and elegant despite the intensely peaty nose.  The spicy finish keeps going for minutes.  Wow!  If you like peat-rich Islay then you must taste this beauitful expression of Islay.  Tasted May 2015. 95 points. The Balvenie PortWood 21 year shows incredibly sweet and delicous aromas and flavours.  So perfectly balanced, this is a very special Scotch that’s received just a touch of Port cask treatment towards the end of it’s long journey en route to the bottle.  Absolutely lovely!  Great value and would make a terrific gift.  Tasted May 2015. 96 points. Black in colour, this is a huge wine with incredible aromatic and flavour intensity.  Dark berries, sweet spices, charcoal, ash, and vanilla on the nose and palate.  Very big wine with big structure that commands a two hour decant to soften the big tannins.  Enjoy 2020-2040.  94 points. Tasted May 2015.  Matt Steeves – http://www.quercusvino.ca

Opus One 2011

Red Blend

—VINTAGES#: 406512   |   375 mL bottle

Matt’s review:

Deep ruby red with a intensely deep core, borderline black, indicating the depth and complexity that’s in this storied wine.  The nose displays rich and savoury stewed fruits, herbs, plum, cacao, green pepper, florest floor, and charcoal.  The palate shows layers of sweet dark fruit, plum, and black currant.  Wonderfully balanced, all the pieces of this masterpiece are in perfect harmony which creates the most wonderful mouthfeel and long lasting flavour which never seems to end.   A fantastic wine. Highly recommended!   Tasted May 2015.  97 points. Matt Steeves – http://www.quercusvino.ca

One of the most storied wines in the world. Opus One, in a demi bottle, making it more affordable, yet still $231.95 – Worth it for such a cellar worthy bottle.

BUBBLY!

Oyster Bay Sparkling Cuvée Rosé

Sparkling – Dry

—VINTAGES#: 280172   |   750 mL bottle

Matt’s review:  A lovely sparkling wine from Oyster Bay.  Brilliant light copper colour with citrus, biscuit, and field berry notes. Micro bubbles make this refreshing blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir a great complement to any charcuterie platter, grilled fish, roasted poultry, or just on its own. 89+ points. Matt Steeves

Kim Crawford Small Parcels Fizz 2009

Sparkling White

—VINTAGES#: 381236   |   750 mL bottle

Matt’s review:  Another Small Parcels premium product from Kim Crawford in NZ. This 2009 KC “Fizz” methode traditionnelle sparkling wine is a blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from Marlborough. It spent 42 months on its lees and the depth of flavour reflects that. Loaded with delicate orchard fruit notes and flavours, fresh baked bread, incredible minerality (making it exceptionally food friendly), delicate micro bubbles all makes this a terrific and affordable alternative to vintage Champagne. A wine I’d recommend buying by the case and watching it evolve over the years. Tasted October 2013. 91 points. Matt Steeves
