Wine Review: CastelGiocondo Brunello di Montalcino 2011 – $27.95 (375 ml)

January 2017

Ottawa, ON

Matt’s review: What a fantastic Brunello, each and every year, especially this 2011 vintage. Made from 100% Sangiovese from their estate vineyard in Montalcino, it shows smoky plum, leather, cedar, and sweet cigar box on the nose and palate. Huge flavour, texture, and structure, this Brunello is a great treat to enjoy with rich Tuscan dishes, and although it’s showing beautifully now, it would be glorious after cellaring 5-15 years to soften the tannins and appreciate the evolution of this storied wine. Available in the demi-bottle (375ml) making it a great wine to buy by the case and enjoy a couple glasses every year as it evolves. Tasted January 2017. 93 points.
