90+ pts Wine Review: 2016 Bossert Winery Grauer Burgunder (aka Pinot Gris/Grigio) from Gundersheim Germany

Ottawa, ON

July 2017

Matt’s review:  Siblings Philipp and Johanna Bossert are producing some very attractive cool climate wines from their boutique winery located in Gundersheim, Germany, about 80km southwest of Frankfurt.  Their Grauer Burgunder (aka Pinot Gris/Grigio), is just one of their very expressive wines.  Produced in a slightly off-dry (feinherb) style, which makes it ideal with a wide range of dishes, and equally well suited as an aperitif or to enjoy served chilled in the summer sun.  The 2016 shows a very aromatic bouquet full of ripe orchard fruit, floral blossom, and freshly baked lemon meringue pie.  The palate is creamy with a zingy texture which showcases the layers of sweet fruit along with a crisp and refreshing finish.  Enjoy this fine aromatic wine year round and drink over the next few years.  Tasted July 2017. 90+ points.
