Matt’s review: Rich, balanced, sophisticated and very welcoming are but a few descriptors for Santa Ema’s Amplus Cabernet Sauvignon. Amplus 2014 shows fragrant blackberry, blueberry, black currant, dark cherry, black plum, and grilled peppers on the nose. The winemaker has allowed the fruit characteristics to shine bright through minimal oak treatment which helps deliver such a fresh style to this bold wine. An impressive value priced wine that shows great density and complexity on the palate with layers of spicy plum, cherry, blackberry, mocha and dark chocolate. Soft but present tannins complement firm cheeses, BBQ’d or braised beef dishes. My top pick, rosemary beef tenderloin with a blackberry red wine sauce. Enjoy now or cellar for up to 5 years. Tasted July 2017. 90 points. Matt Steeves – http://www.quercusvino.ca
