Matt’s review: Tedeschi’s single vineyard riserva Amarone from the La Fabriseria Vineyard at +500m above sea level on the western limits of Valpolicella in the Classico region.
Tedeschi La Fabriseria Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Riserva was born from Renzo Tedeschi’s passion for creating the best expressions of Valpolicella wines from unique single vineyards. A single vineyard Riserva wine, only produced in exceptional vintages, just 10 since it’s first vintage in 1983, it’s produced from a selection of grapes from the Fabriseria vineyard at the top of the hills of Valpolicella Classico between the communities of Fumane and Sant’Ambrogio di Valpolicella.
La Fabriseria Amarone della Valpolicella Classico DOCG Riserva is an ultra premium wine characterized by its elegance and freshness and remarkable structure, capable to age for decades, indicative of its impressive pedigree and validation of the winemaker’s vision in crafting this Valpolicella icon. The 1995 vintage was only the third (’83, ’88, ’95), and tasting it nearly 30 years later the wine was showing its age with a rustic-garnet colour, the nose showing a beautiful medley of dried fruits and Tawny Port characteristics. The palate was divine…layers of dried fruits, spice, in such an elegant and refreshing presentation…pure harmony of fruit and body with a long finish where that remarkable medley of refreshing dried fruit and spice persists for minutes. La Fabriseria Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Riserva (and the associated single vineyard Valpolicella Classico Superiore) is a fantastic example of the world-class wines being produced in Valpolicella and the potential these wines have for decades of cellaring. Highly recommend La Fabriseria vineyard wines and enjoying them over multiple decades as they evolve with bottle age.
