Drea’s Wine Co.: Andrea Kaiser’s Boutique Single Vineyard Expressions of Niagara-on-the-Lake

Andrea Kaiser’s Drea’s Wine Co. is one of Niagara-on-the-Lake’s most exciting boutique wineries, producing single-vineyard, low-intervention wines that beautifully capture the character of this unique terroir. Crafted in small quantities, these wines are not only deeply personal—dedicated to her late father, Canadian winemaking pioneer Karl J. Kaiser—but also proudly reflective of the land and the legacy she continues to build.

A Legacy of Craft and Care

Following in her father’s footsteps, Andrea remains committed to wines that emphasize purity of fruit, bright acidity, and balance. She embraces a minimalist winemaking style, letting the vineyards speak for themselves while producing high-quality terroir-driven wines. It’s a philosophy that has quickly gained recognition, with Drea’s wines featured internationally, from Michelin-starred restaurants to Canadian Embassies abroad.

New Releases: 2023 Collection

Drea’s 2023 Cabernet Franc (Huebel Grapes Estates – Four Mile Creek)

Picked late in November to ensure full ripeness, this Cabernet Franc is a shining example of what Niagara can deliver in cooler vintages. Medium ruby in the glass, the wine opens with bright red fruit—cherry, plum, and raspberry—layered with floral notes, pepper, earthy tones, and a subtle cured-meat savoury character. The palate is elegant and refreshing, with plush textures and lively balance at just 12% ABV. Like a rose in bloom, this wine reveals greater complexity over time, with refined elegance and depth that reward patience. A fitting tribute to Andrea’s father, who always celebrated Cabernet Franc’s potential in Canada. Tasted September 2025. Matt Steeves – http://www.quercusvino.ca

Drea’s 2023 Sauvignon Blanc (Watson Farm, planted 1982)

Clean, crisp, mineral-driven, and expressive, this Sauvignon Blanc shows Niagara’s ability to craft wines of tension and precision. With 13.5% ABV and just 3 g/L residual sugar, it is bone dry, layered with orchard fruit, citrus zest, and herbal freshness. Recognized internationally—including by Jancis Robinson—this is a benchmark Canadian Sauvignon Blanc that continues to impress critics and consumers alike. Tasted September 2025. Drea’s 2023 Dornfelder (Edinger Farm – Niagara Peninsula)

A unicorn of Canadian wine, Dornfelder is seldom seen outside of Germany, yet Andrea has coaxed from it a wine of vibrant personality. With fermentation and aging entirely in stainless steel, it brims with juicy blackberry fruit, bright acidity, and an approachable freshness, while the saignée winemaking (for the Rosato) results in increased colour, depth and structure given the increased ratio of skin to juice during maceration. Listed at one of Canada’s first Michelin-starred restaurants, this is proof of Dornfelder’s surprising potential in Niagara’s cool climate. Tasted September 2025. Drea’s 2023 Rosato (Edinger Farm – Four Mile Creek)

Made from the Dornfelder varietal, using the saignée method, this rosé is as rare as it is refreshing. Pale peach in colour, it bursts with field strawberry, raspberry, peach, and cherry. Super dry, bone-dry in fact, it’s lively and crisp with just a touch of tannin giving texture to the palate. Named as one of Decanter’s Top Canadian Rosés to Try, this is a summertime essential and one of the most distinctive rosés produced in Niagara. Tasted September 2025. Drea’s 2023 Sparkling Rosé (Marynissen Estate, Pinot Noir)

From the heart of Niagara wine country, Drea’s 2023 Sparkling Rosé is a joyful expression of Pinot Noir that delivers elegance, freshness, and serious brunch appeal, all in one glass. Sourced from Pinot Noir vines planted in 2017 at the historic Marynissen Estate, this charmat-method sparkler is bright, bone dry, and fruit-forward by design, thanks to a short one-month rest on the lees to keep things crisp and vibrant.

In the glass, it opens with a lively bouquet of ripe field strawberries, cherry compote, violets, and a playful wisp of cotton candy. The palate is juicy yet taut, driven by mouthwatering acidity and delicate red fruit. At just 2 g/L of residual sugar, it’s refreshingly dry and food-friendly, a style that lets the purity of the Pinot Noir shine from first sip to last. Perfectly suited for celebratory brunches or elegant afternoon affairs, this wine is a standout pairing for everything from smoked salmon to fresh berry pastries. I’d also recommend it as a post–high tea pour, it has that classy sparkle and red fruit charm that just works with savory bites and sweet treats alike. Tasted September 2025. Bonus: Drea’s 2024 Sparkling Icewine (Watson Estate, Vidal)

Carrying forward her father’s pioneering legacy, he famously put Canadian Icewine on the world stage, Andrea has reimagined Vidal in a playful, celebratory style. This Sparkling Icewine is luscious yet lifted, with 204 g/L of residual sugar balanced by effervescent charm. Sweet golden fruit, apricot, honey, and tropical notes mingle with creamy bubbles for a decadent treat. As Andrea says: “It is sheer perfection—where effervescence meets concentrated flavour.” Enjoy 2025-2028. Tasted September 2025. Matt Steeves – http://www.quercusvino.ca

Carrying a Legacy Forward

Every bottle of Drea’s wine is a tribute: to family, to Niagara, and to the belief that small-batch, carefully crafted wines can tell stories as profound as the land itself. With proceeds supporting the Karl J. Kaiser Memorial Fund at Brock University, Andrea’s work continues her father’s legacy of mentorship and excellence in Canadian winemaking.

For those seeking authentic, low-intervention wines that embody Niagara-on-the-Lake’s terroir, Andrea Kaiser’s Drea’s label is a name to know. While the label design may not be everyone’s cup of tea, it’s what’s inside that matters and Andrea Kaiser has delivered a great portfolio of single-vineyard wines representing the diversity and quality available in NOTL.
