Matt’s review of the 2016 vintage: Robert Mondavi’s Private Selection Bourbon barrel-aged Chardonnay is one you don’t want to miss when it hits the shelves in November at LCBO. If you like California Chardonnay and Kentucky Bourbon (separately of course), then I’d highly recommend picking up some of this creamy and delicious Chardonnay and enjoying it over the holiday season and throughout the winter with Pan seared scallops with a white wine and Bourbon garlic cream sauce or Bourbon bacon scallops with maple syrup. A terrific wine to complement those dishes, whether if served as an hors d’oeuvre or as the main dish in a special meal. This Chardonnay spent time aging in Bourbon barrels thereby imparting an extra pronounced richness and creaminess that is undoubtedly Californian in style. Aromas and flavours of grilled pineapple, Bourbon flambéed poached pears, vanilla biscotti, and golden apple, with sweet tropical and orchard fruits on the finish. This limited edition wine is ideally suited for those that love oaked California Chardonnay and what better time to enjoy this then over the holiday season. Tasted October 2017. 89 points.
