Matt’s review: Maynard’s 2013 Late Bottled Vintage Porto offers terrific quality at a remarkable price. A blend of five organically grown grapes (Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, Tinta Barroca and Tinto Cão) from throughout the Duoro region of Portugal, which were aged in barrel for over four years before bottling. Maynard’s 2013 LBV is both elegant and complex with notes of dried dark berries, fig, black plum, mocha, mint chocolate, dried herbs, sous bois, and graphite. Medium bodied with an elegant texture, the layers of dried dark fruits, baking spices, and chocolate produce a very delicious full flavoured Port with refreshing acidity and fine tannins that persist on the long finish. A very serious LBV with all the flavour of Vintage Port, it’s simply delicious and remarkably priced. Highly recommend! Enjoy 2018-2023+, from a large Bordeaux or Burgundy glass, paired with dark chocolate, fig and hazelnut semifreddo, chocolate dipped figs with almonds, or bacon-wrapped figs stuffed with blue cheese…each are unbelievable pairings with this fine Porto. Unlike Vintage Port, you can enjoy this LBV over the course of a few weeks after opening (if there’s any left after day one!). Tasted February 2018. 92 points. Matt Steeves – www.quercusvino.ca
