Matt’s review: Romitorio di Santedame is Ruffino’s new high-end single vineyard Gran Selezione from the Santedame Estate in Castellina Chianti. A blend of 90% Sangiovese and 10% Colorino, from the heart of Chianti Classico, between the region’s twin capitals of Florence and Siena, this Gran Selezione was accorded the quality distinction given its great structure, depth of flavour and sense of place. In its second vintage now, the 2016 shows black cherry, spices, tea, balsamic, leather and earthy notes. Full bodied with dusty textured tannins, this youthful wine is poised to age beautifully and complement rich and hearty dishes. Enjoy 2020-2030+. Tasted bottle #3040, November 2020. 93 points.
