wine review: Kirby Estate Single Vineyard Pinot Blanc 2025

October 2026

Matt’s review: Kirby Estate’s 2025 Single Vineyard Pinot Blanc represents a remarkable evolution in style, showcasing even greater elegance, precision, and restraint than the already impressive 2023 vintage. With no 2024 vintage produced, this latest release marks an impressive return for one of Canada’s finest expressions of Pinot Blanc.

Situated within the Niagara Lakeshore sub-appellation of Niagara-on-the-Lake, Kirby Estate lies approximately 2.7 kilometres south of Lake Ontario, bounded by Four Mile Creek to the east and north. The estate’s Pinot Blanc vines, planted in 1996, are now approaching three decades of maturity, contributing to the remarkable depth, texture, and site-specific character of this beautifully crafted wine.

Compared to the richer, slightly more oak-influenced 2023, the 2025 exhibits a lighter, more refined touch, with beautifully restrained oak allowing the vineyard’s exceptional mineral character and natural texture to take centre stage.

The palate is wonderfully expressive, offering a delicious medley of crisp yellow and white orchard fruit, complemented by striking chalky, seashell-like minerality. There’s an impressive interplay between the wine’s refined texture, vibrant acidity, and pronounced mineral character, delivering exceptional balance, purity, and persistence. Elegant, precise, and beautifully composed, with a long, refreshing, mineral-driven finish.

An outstanding, site-expressive Pinot Blanc that demonstrates just how impressive this varietal can be in Niagara when elegance, restraint, and terroir are allowed to shine. Easily among Canada’s finest Pinot Blanc expressions, and a wine that confidently stands alongside exceptional international examples. Tasted July and October 2026. 94+ points.
